Do you find that there is more work to get done than you or your staff has the hours in the day to accomplish? Small business productivity tips probably won’t eliminate that feeling. However, they can increase your productivity so that you don’t keep slipping further behind. You will still need to prioritize what you have to do with the minor gains these tips provide.

Despite this disclaimer, these small gains in efficiency and effectiveness add up. In this first small business productivity tip I recorded for you with video, you will see how easy and flexible Microsoft Office’s AutoCorrect is to use. It’s a video done on the fascinating free tool, Jing.

In this video, you will see a demonstration of how to create an AutoCorrect text entry to shorten the steps on several types of entries.

 Examples of AutoCorrect Entries

  • Multi-line address:

“mycompany” autocorrects to a “formatted entry”

My Construction Company
2211 S. Main Street
Covina, CA 91723

  • Using initials to create the full name:

“cms/” produces “Carl M. Schwartzenheimer,” an unformatted entry

  • Frequently used terms can be reduced to three characters:

“s/b” turns into “small business”

“sb-“ turns into “Small Business”

  • Signature – you can use a few characters to get a consistent signature for the end of both your emails and your blog posts:

“Sig/optin”

Your closing line or tagline,

Some of the benefits of using AutoCorrect:

  • Reduce keystrokes, especially with the use of the Shift key
  • Ensure the proper spelling of names you aren’t always sure you spelled correctly
  • Get a complex things like the above signature line reduced to just a few easily remembered keystrokes
  • You can also save text entries that use several fonts and different font sizes as well a color changes (this was not on the video)
  • You can save things like lines with extra spacing

“shortline” generates the following short line with extra blank lines:

Using Microsoft AutoCorrect is easy, fun and fast. You can improve productivity with these little steps, a lot. Likewise, you can improve accuracy and even create multi-line entries like signatures with a call to action and a hyperlink.
