Small Business Tips – What Makes a Good Website?

By John Aberle | Internet Marketing

While a website or blog enables you to attract customers to your small business 24 hours a day, every day of the year, you must make a good first impression. The Internet cut your time for a first impression from the 20 seconds on a sales call to as little as 1/20th of a second. That means it needs to be visually attractive, appear to speak to your prospects’ concerns and that it will be easy to get around.

By John Aberle | Internet Marketing

Are you struggling to do blog post after blog post in hopes that your ideal prospects will find you? Yet no matter how many articles you post on your blog, nothing seems to move you up in the generic (i.e. unpaid) search results on any of the three major search engines? It may be time then to think like Internet marketers. What do the search engines, especially Google, want? The main focus based on what Google says and does is on making the Internet a Better User Experience. They want to simultaneously make it more accessible.

HostGator Shines as a Host for WordPress Blogs

By John R. Aberle | Business Lifestyle , Business Systems , Internet Marketing , Relationship Selling

I just invested over a week uploading backed up files, testing to be sure the uploaded Help Customers Buy blog worked on a different domain name before I moved my https://www.helpcustomersbuy.com domain to HostGator. This process was so complicated because of some problems with my backups.
That’s history now. However, moving from one hosting company to another is not for the faint hearted. There were lots of lessons along the way. I’m grateful to Yahoo! for a couple years of hosting my website and this blog. However, if you want a WordPress blog on your own hosted site then I encourage you to look into HostGator or someone else who plays nice with WordPress.

In Emails, Should You Greet or Not Greet?

By John Aberle | Business Lifestyle , Business Systems , Internet Marketing , Relationship Selling , Sales and Marketing

I’ve heard one of the foremost people in Internet marketing state that he doesn’t respect emails that come with a greeting. He wants to get right to the point. I find this ironic because the whole issue with social networking is to be social and to be personal. So the social networking question becomes, to greet or not to greet. In my experience, people still want to be treated like individuals. They want to count, not to be lost due to false efficiency.

The Strangest Secret to Business Success

By John Aberle | Business Lifestyle , Business Systems , Internet Marketing , Relationship Selling , Sales and Marketing

It’s ironic that the secret to great success in business lies in service first, rather than focusing on the money. Interestingly, this is a heart-centered, soft sell sales approach. In the past two weeks, I’ve heard several incredibly successful people point out that if you want to really grow your business, you need to serve first, i.e. give something of value with no expectation of return, before you begin to think of selling. Harvey Mackay, six time best selling business book author; Stephen Pierce of Stephen Pierce International; and Bill Walsh of Powerteam International also gave advice related to putting the other person first.

So the strangest secret to business success comes down to a heart-centered, soft sell sales approach. Give service first. Provide value. Find out about the other person and her concerns. When you have shown sincere concern and developed trust, then you will find your prospect receptive to talking business. When you connect with others as people instead of wallets, you build relationships that make selling fun, fulfilling and mutually rewarding.

Social networking without looking like a spammer

By John Aberle | Business Lifestyle , Business Systems , Internet Marketing , Relationship Selling

It seems everything in life is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s called social networking because people want to be social and interact. They want to become part of a community. On the other hand, the Internet marketing is full of spammers, people who only care about their own profit and have no sincere desire to engage with you beyond getting your money. In this case, the spammers aren’t filling email boxes but rather cluttering blogs with meaningless comments. So how do you become part of the Internet community while avoiding looking like a spammer? Interestingly, it’s easy. First, look at what spammers who put comments on blogs do.

The idea that soft sell sales is all about personality is wrong

By John Aberle | Business Lifestyle , Business Systems , Internet Marketing , Relationship Selling , Sales and Marketing

I had forgotten that people may interpret soft sell sales as an effort to succeed simply on the power of one’s great personality. Jim Sniechowski in his recent blog post, Soft Sell Marketing Misconceptions – A Dime a Dozen, mentioned misconceptions about soft sell. Among these is the flaw in thinking that soft sell sales is about personality. This false image produces the erroneous idea that soft sell salespeople are limited to sales to prospects who already know they wanted to buy that product or service.

I can appreciate how someone might think that soft sell means personality. Unfortunately, regardless of your approach, whether traditional, hard sell or the rising in popularity heart-centered, soft sell one, sales success takes proactive work. True heart-centered, soft sell sales success has little or nothing to do with having a likable personality.
